The world is a series of experiences that are given to me in order to awaken out of the illusion of my own separateness.
A brief video of Ram Dass sharing how each of us have a series of experiences that awaken us out of the illusion of our own separateness.
You got caught in the projection of your own desires outward, because that’s what the universe is it’s the projection of our desire systems.
If you and I go through a small town and you’re hungry you’ll notice um pizza parlors and donut shops and restaurants.
And if I go through the town there’s a strange sound in my engine which there often is i’ll notice repair shops and gas stations. And at the end of the town you and i really went through different towns.
From my point of view, the world of being in the world but not of the world. The world is a series of experiences that are given to me in order to awaken out of the illusion of my own separateness.

Ram Dass (1931–2019) first went to India in 1967. He was still Dr. Richard Alpert, an already eminent Harvard psychologist and psychedelic pioneer with Dr. Timothy Leary. He continued his psychedelic research until his journey to the East in 1967, driving overland to India, where he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, affectionately known as Maharaj-ji. Maharaj-ji gave him the name, Ram Dass, which means “servant of God.” Everything changed then—his intense dharmic life started, and he became a pivotal influence on a culture that has reverberated with the words “be here now” ever since.
Be Here Now, Ram Dass’s monumentally influential and seminal book, still stands as the highly readable centerpiece of the Western articulation of Eastern philosophy, and how to live joyously 100 percent of the time in the present, be it luminous or mundane.
